Firechief PyroFlow is a new and environmentally friendly suppression agent composed of expanded glass granules. It is suitable for both preventative fire protection and fire fighting where Lithium-ion batteries are present.

The small, lightweight spheres is made up of foamed recycled glass containing tiny internal pores, forming a partially closed cell structure. Since the granulate is 100 % mineral based, it is noncombustible.

How does Firechief PyroFlow work?

When used as a packing medium, Firechief PyroFlow plays an active role during a lithium-ion battery fire. Under extreme heat, such as that produced during thermal runaway, the granules begin to soften and fuse to form glass.

As this transformation occurs, the material absorbs significant amounts of heat, helping to lower the temperature of the fire. At the same time, it creates a sealed, solid barrier around the affected area, effectively isolating the battery and limiting further chemical reaction or spread.

• Suitable for use as a packaging media as part of a fire risk mitigation strategy to delay the spread of Lithium-ion battery fires
• Ideal for combining with fireproof or specialist containers
• Place batteries and/or battery devices centrally to ensure a sufficient layer of Pyroflow granules on all sides
• For added protection, consider placing new or in-life batteries within a sealed container prior to immersion in granules to prevent dust ingress or surface scratching
• Where batteries and/or devices are packaged in combustible materials, a sufficiently thick layer of granules should be used to provide adequate material around any secondary packaging
